The works, scheduled for completion by the end of 2026, are justified by the age of the facilities, built in the 1960s, and by the technical requirements associated with the storage and handling of petroleum products.
The Minister of Environment and Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho, emphasized the importance of the intervention, stating that "the security of energy infrastructures and the protection of national strategic reserves are fundamental to ensuring the resilience of the country's supply”. The minister also highlighted that the intervention "allows for the continued modernization of a strategically important facility, with special attention to the technical conditions necessary for its operation”.
The rehabilitation works are underway and are part of a set of investments considered essential by the Government to ensure energy security and enhance the operationality of the infrastructure.
