The new Specialized Technology Center in IT, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), was inaugurated in Coimbra, promising to bring vocational training closer to labor market demands.

The new Specialized Technology Center (CTE) in Coimbra, equipped with state-of-the-art computer equipment and specialized laboratories, was inaugurated with the aim of aligning practical learning with current training and labor market needs. The investment was funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).
At the inauguration ceremony, Ana Abrunhosa, Mayor of Coimbra, highlighted the crucial role of these centers in modernizing public education and enhancing vocational training. "Specialized Technology Centers represent one of the most important investments in modernizing public education and valuing vocational training," she stated.
The Municipality of Coimbra views the new CTE as an opportunity to strengthen the link between youth qualification and economic and social development, creating opportunities for personal and professional fulfillment for young people and ensuring access to qualified talent for local companies. "We are building bridges between schools, higher education, and the business community, fostering a virtuous cycle of economic and social development," emphasized Ana Abrunhosa, also praising the Agrupamento de Escolas Coimbra Oeste for its pedagogical innovation.
With this new infrastructure, Coimbra now has three such centers, reinforcing the technical-vocational education network and the articulation between education, innovation, and territorial development. The center currently hosts professional courses for Multimedia Technician and Software Development Technician, according to the director of Agrupamento de Escolas Coimbra Oeste, Ermelinda Cruz.
Ermelinda Cruz stressed that the new equipment will enhance the practical component, promote experimentation and project development, bringing students closer to real work contexts. She also highlighted the importance of developing skills such as critical thinking, creativity, and autonomy, alongside ethical technology use. The Agrupamento also aims to deepen cooperation with higher education institutions, companies, and public bodies.
The vice-president of CCDR Centro, Cristina Oliveira, also emphasized the potential of the new facility, advocating for its broader use and the establishment of partnerships. The ceremony also included cultural performances by the Regional Conservatory of Coimbra and the Agrupamento's theater group.
