Operational results were presented on October 19th during a ceremony at the Air Force Headquarters in Alfragide, focusing on the execution of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) and the operational deployment of these aircraft.
Under the PRR, 13 UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters were acquired, forming Squadron 551 – Panthers, alongside two AW119 Koala helicopters for Squadron 552 – Drones. The investment also covered the modernization of essential infrastructure, including the North Hangar at Air Base No. 8 in Ovar and a new building for Squadron 551, inaugurated in 2025 and 2026 respectively, largely funded by the PRR.
These upgrades aim to improve operational conditions, readiness, and mission effectiveness, enabling a faster and more coordinated emergency response. Crew and maintenance team preparation were also key components, with Squadron 551 developing the necessary skills for operating the new helicopters.
