Sales of road fuels at retail service stations in Portugal recorded a decrease of 6.07% in August 2026. This figure is notable for the -0.59% drop in road gasolines and an -8.66% decrease in road diesel, reversing the trend of previous months where gasoline had been rising.
During the same period, the predominance of simple fuel sales continued, accounting for 72.14% of simple gasoline and 63.43% of simple diesel. Compared to the previous month, total fuel sales fell by -4.23%, reflecting a -7.99% decrease in road diesel and a 4.01% increase in road gasolines.
By the end of August, accumulated road fuel sales showed a year-on-year growth of 0.18% compared to the same period in 2025. This performance is attributed to a 6.37% increase in road gasoline consumption and a -2.37% reduction in road diesel.
ENSE continues to monitor these indicators, which are derived from direct records submitted by service stations through the Balcão Único da Energia, to fulfill its legal responsibilities, particularly the monitoring of the Simple Fuels Law (Law nº6/2015 of January 16th).
