The Portuguese Economic and Social Council (CES) and Algeria's National Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CNESE) defined institutional cooperation areas during a meeting in Lisbon, on the sidelines of the Euromed Summit 2026.

CES President Luís Pais Antunes met with his Algerian counterpart, Mohamed Boukhari, on October 26 and 27. The meeting, organized by the European Economic and Social Committee with CES support, aimed to follow up on the CNESE's proposal to establish a cooperation framework between the two institutions.
Both presidents acknowledged the convergence in the missions of their institutions, which include supporting public decision-making, promoting social dialogue, and strengthening participatory governance. Potential areas of cooperation cover the exchange of experiences in consensus-building methods, public policy evaluation, organized civil society participation, employment, skills development, and ecological and digital transitions.
Next steps include identifying priority areas for technical cooperation and developing a common roadmap, which could lead to a memorandum of understanding between the two Councils.
