The European project AGEO, led by Instituto Superior Técnico (ULisboa), has been selected for the Public Choice 2026 category of the European Funds Awards, highlighting its work in geological risk management.

The AGEO project – Atlantic Platform for Geological Risk Management, coordinated by Professor Rui Carrilho Gomes, from the Instituto Superior Técnico and researcher at CERIS, is among the finalists for the Public Choice 2026 of the European Funds Awards. The initiative, supported by the European Interreg Atlantic Area program, aims to involve citizens in the prevention and monitoring of geological risks.
Since 2019, the project has developed five pilot observatories in Portugal and partner countries, as well as a platform and a mobile application. Through these tools, citizens can issue alerts, access information on natural phenomena such as landslides, earthquakes, floods, and coastal erosion, and consult educational content.
In 2025, AGEO had already won the Regiostars Awards in the “Green Europe” category and the corresponding Public Choice Award. The European Funds Awards, promoted by the “Portugal 2030” Communication Network, aim to give visibility to projects supported by the European Union and their territorial impact.
